Speakers

Ann Sanson

Ann Sanson is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Her research career focused on social and emotional development from infancy to adulthood, particularly through large-scale longitudinal studies. As she became more aware of the climate crisis, her work shifted towards seeking to understand the impacts of climate change on children and young people, how they are responding to awareness of the threat it poses to their future lives, and how they can best be supported to thrive and cope effectively with the crisis. She is also passionate about empowering developmental scientists to contribute meaningfully to addressing the climate emergency.

McKenna Parnes

McKenna Parnes is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Her program of research focuses on how socio-ecological factors play critical roles in risk, resilience, and opportunities in child and adolescent development. She recently has started examining these associations in the context of the climate crisis, exploring questions related to climate change impacts on youth well-being and strategies that may mitigate climate-related psychological consequences and promote equity-focused action.

Ella Simons

Ella Simons is a 17-year-old student and youth activist in Melbourne, Australia. She first became involved with “School Strike 4 Climate” in 2018. Since then, she has represented Australia at a Youth 4 Climate pre-COP event in Milan, and has volunteered across local climate campaigns. Ella is now proud to be part of the “Make it 16” campaign (which is seeking to lower the voting age to 16), and is passionate about youth voice.
